Donington Park 17th May 2009 … Chipping Norton’s Alice Powell claimed her first Top 10 finish in the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship at Donington on Sunday, finishing 9th out of 29 drivers.
Alice, the only female competitor, and at just 16 the Championship’s youngest driver, finished 1st out of all graduates, or rookies, in Race 5 of the Championship.
Alice, who attends The Cotswold School at Bourton-on-the-Water, says: ”It’s been a great weekend bearing in mind I missed the entire pre-event test on Thursday because I was taking my GCSE’s!”.
Starting 13th on the grid, Alice moved through the field to 9th and was also awarded “Driver Of The Day” for Race 5.
Competing with the championship winning team Manor Competition who launched the careers of F1 Champions Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Räikkönen, Alice plans to be the top ‘rookie’ this season and finish in the overall top 10 – her driving ambition is to become the first successful female in Formula 1.
Alice is supported by http://www.silverstone-hotels.com, which has financed the 2009 season and is continuing to support her on her route to Formula 1.
